Please note Athletics NSW season is currently suspended due to COVID-19 (updated 18 March 2020)

We would love you to join and compete for SUAC in 2019-20! There are 2 preferred registrations options depending on whether you are a track & field athlete OR whether you compete off the track in winter road & cross country races:

  • 2019-20 Athletics NSW (Open or Junior) Athlete Membership for the period 1 October 2019 to 30 September 2020 for both the ANSW Summer Track & Field AND 2020 Winter seasons (season registration for 2019-20 season now closed, 2020-21 expected to open August 2020)

  • 2020 RunNSW / Waratah Run Series Membership for the period 1 April 2020 to 30 September 2020 for the 2020 winter season ONLY (registration via methods below from March 2020 for cross country, road & recreational run athletes only, excludes all Summer Athletics NSW Track & Field events – registration for 2020 currently CLOSED due to COVID-19)

We recommend almost every athlete select the Athletics NSW Athlete Membership (1st option) except distance athletes who have missed the Summer Track & Field season. We can also offer Community Athlete registration as well as Club Official registration. Scroll below FAQs on how to join!

Frequently asked questions (to assist new members)

Do I need to be a University of Sydney Student to join SUAC? Absolutely not, we’re open to all, including all levels and abilities!

Is there an age limit? We can register athletes from U14 to 100+. For Little Athletics NSW Dual Registration, read also the specific section at the bottom of this page.

What does registration mean? You must be registered to compete in Athletics NSW & Athletics Australia sanctioned events. Season competition can be found on the Athletics NSW website (there are also reciprocal arrangements with other States). Some events are free to enter, others are pay entry per event. SUAC covers race entry for NSW State Relays & Club Championships as well as all winter relay races and enters as many teams as there are athletes willing to compete. You also get to be part of Australia’s first & finest athletics club and have a great time with a great bunch of people. And we organise lots of trips and run a heap of fantastic social events!

Does registration include training & coaching? No, this is entirely separate to registration but the Head Coach can offer sprints, middle distance & distance coaching for runners aged 16 and older committed to 2 or more training sessions per week. For details see Training

I only do fun runs, should I register? Yes you absolutely should! If you’re not keen on running on the track at all, the 2020 RunNSW / Waratah Run series registration provides discounted or free entry to RunNSW events and enables you to earn points for SUAC in the Winter Premiership as well as testing yourself against the rest of the State across all age groups.

Should I register for the RunNSW / Waratah Run Series if I am a sprinter or compete in field events? No. You should register as a 2019-20 Athletics NSW Open or Junior Athlete. If it is Autumn or Winter and you’ve missed the current Track & Field season, you should be winter training however as you will be on the track or field in no time!

Can I register for Summer Track & Field season only? No, the two options are 2019-20 Athletics NSW Athlete Membership (includes Summer & Winter seasons) OR 2020 RunNSW/Waratah Run Series (Winter) season only.

Does Sydney University have its own track? Sadly no despite the University being around since 1850 however in 2020 we launched RUNSYDUNI, a 4km fun run and pre-event training sessions on campus for USYD students & staff. The closest public track is ES Marks Athletics Track (Anzac Parade, Moore Park) operated by Centennial Parklands Trust.

Why do the men wear all white & what’s with the tie? SUAC was founded in 1878, that’s over 140 years of wearing the club uniform which has featured proudly around the world including IAAF Diamond League meets by Nick Hough, Jenny Blundell & Nicola McDermott and made a memorable appearance at the World Beer Mile Championships by World Championships representative Jack Colreavy.

How do I get my hands on a nifty club uniform? Singlets, training tops, crop tops, shorts and briefs can be purchased through the Registrar from the University of Sydney (by appointment only), at training or at some meets.

How do I apply for an Elite Athlete Program scholarship? Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness administers all aspects of the scholarship program, see

What ages are Junior & Open Athletes? Junior Athletes must 19 years of age or younger as at 30 September 2020 (if not a Dual Athlete). Open athletes are 20 or above as at 30 September 2020.

What are 2019-20 registration fees? Open Athlete fees for are $240 & Junior $215. 2020 RunNSW / Waratah Series fees TBC. A Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness annual membership is required as well.

I’ve got it, now how do I register? We’re not on the ANSW membership registration portal so it’s a good question, see below. If you want to be informed when registrations are open, leave your details on our expression of interest form on our Contacts page.

How do I be part of the USYD Nationals Division 1 Athletics team? In 2020 this will run from 3-5 April in Brisbane. All program & entry information is available from UniSport Australia however SUAC will arrange accommodation, see Contacts page for the 2020 Team Manager. Registration with SUAC is not required to compete at Nationals Division 1 however registered athletes receive discounts on club uniforms & other great benefits. Club competition uniforms which we compete in are available to purchase from the club Registrar by appointment at head office of Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness.

The 2019-20 season registration evening will take place on Tuesday 8 October 2019 4.00pm-7.00pm at the Royal Hotel, corner Codrington & Abercrombie Streets, Darlington (opposite the USYD Abercrombie Street Business School Building). Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness Annual Membership

As a member of SUAC and/or to compete at Australian University Games you also need to be an annual member of Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness, our parent organisation, which is available online at or via the Registrar (will be automatically included as part of the online registration option). Annual Memberships are $10 Sydney Uni Students, $60 non-students, $25 U18. You also get access to Member rates of SUSF’s health & fitness facilities.

Little Athletics NSW Dual Registration

In 2016 Little Athletics NSW & Athletics NSW began offering automatic Dual Registration with senior Athletics NSW clubs at time of LANSW registration. This is designed to make younger athletes more aware of senior athletics and provide a more visible pathway in accordance with the Onesport strategy.

What do I need to know about selecting Sydney University Athletics Club? Please read the FAQs above as several are also relevant to Dual Registered athletes. Being a University club means we do not have any affiliation with Little Athletics clubs, nor do we have a  junior program like we do University Games or scholarship programs and nor do we run our own meets.

Do Dual Athletes have to compete or when can they?  They do not have to compete, it is entirely up to you as all Athletics NSW events are open to enter online (also on the day in non-Championships events). Some competitions may be age graded, others such as Allcomers meets are Open age so it is best to check the ANSW website. SUAC does not run its own meets but Dual Registered athletes have in the past competed at NSW Relay Championships in events where relay teams can be filled.

I didn’t select a senior club at the time of LANSW registration for my child, what next? Feel free to contact the Registrar.
