We would love you to join and compete for SUAC for season 2023-24! There are 2 preferred registrations options depending on whether you are a track & field athlete OR whether you only compete off the track in winter road & cross country races:
2023-24 Athletics NSW (Open, Junior, Youth, Kids) Athlete Membership for the period 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024 for both the ANSW Summer Track & Field AND 2024 Winter seasons (2023-24 summer & winter seasons) – registration open from 1 October 2023.
2024 Winter Series Membership for the period 1 April 2024 to 30 September 2024 for the 2024 winter season ONLY (registration via methods below open for cross country, road & recreational run athletes is will be open from early 2024, excludes all Summer Athletics NSW Track & Field events). Winter event calendar can be found here.
A third option of 2023-24 Community Membership exists which is primarily designed for those who wish to experience community 3k and 5k track races (ie Bronze tier events only excluding all Gold & Silver tier events) and non-Championship winter events put on by Athletics NSW throughout the season. Community members pay more per event than Athlete Membership and results do not count for Summer or Winter club points however Community members do benefit from Athletics NSW insurance coverage. Community members can upgrade to Athlete Membership.
We recommend almost every athlete select the Athletics NSW Athlete Membership (1st option) except distance athletes who have missed the Summer Track & Field season who should become a Winter Series member. Can’t compete at the moment? Become a club volunteer member or NSW Official, scroll below FAQs on how to join!
Frequently asked questions (to assist new members)
You must be registered to compete in Athletics NSW & Athletics Australia sanctioned events and Championship events. Season competition can be found on the Athletics NSW website (there are also reciprocal arrangements with other States). Some events are free to enter, others are pay entry per event.
SUAC is Australia’s first and finest athletics club with huge success at club, national and international level. We have superb coaches who have spent decades in the sport. We offer free entry to ES Marks track on Monday nights and free strength & conditioning sessions to eligible athletes at Sydney Uni high performance gym. For teams events SUAC covers race entry for NSW State Relays & Club Championships as well as all winter relay races and enters as many teams as there are athletes willing to compete. With the help of the University of Sydney we run our own on campus fun run RUNSYDUNI. You also get to be part of Australia’s first & finest athletics club and have a great time with a great bunch of people.
If you are a University of Sydney student you get to be part of our UniSport Nationals Division 1 team and a part of intervarsity history competing for USYD. And we organise lots of trips and run a heap of fantastic social events! So join us!
Absolutely not, we’re open to all, including all levels and abilities! We especially welcome school leavers to SUAC and make the transition from school or junior athletics to senior athletics.
From 2023 Athletics NSW is offering membership for children from 3 years old (Athletics NSW Kids) all the way up to masters. As a university club, our programs are principally directed at late high school, university age and above and do recommend parents read all FAQs to ensure SUAC is the right club for your child.
No, this is entirely separate to registration but we offer sprints, middle distance & distance coaching for runners aged 16 and older committed to 2 or more training sessions per week as well as free entry to ES Marks track on Monday nights. For details see Training
Free sessions exist for all SUAC registered athletes at the David Mortimer High Performance Gym under the supervision of our strength & conditioning coach Miles Downie at scheduled session times Monday, Wednesday & Friday, see also training. Further details regarding accessing these sessions is supplied upon registration.
Okay. There are a few components. NSW competition is run by Athletics NSW and the calendar can be found here for season 2023-24. Please note meets get added from time to time which are communicated by email and social media. Athletics Australia run National Track & Field Championships and the Track Classics which can be found here. UniSport Australia run Nationals Division 1 Athletics and Distance Running Championships – see FAQs below for details. In addition we run our own Christimas Eve Mile and Sprint handicap events as well as RUNSYDUNI in semester 1 on campus (see below FAQ).
Absolutely not! Athletics is for everyone and meets accommodate all levels and abilities. Sprint, middle distance and distance races are graded by seed time and often field events are split into 2 groups with different starting heights or boards. The best way to improve is of course to train and compete!
Yes you absolutely should! If you’re not keen on running on the track at all, the RunNSW Athletics NSW Winter Series registration provides discounted entry to Athletics NSW winter and RunNSW series events and enables you to earn points for SUAC in the Winter Premiership as well as testing yourself against the rest of NSW across all age groups.
No. You should register as a Athletics NSW Open or Concession Athlete. If it is Autumn or Winter and you’ve missed the current Track & Field season, you should be winter training however as you will be on the track or field in no time!
RUNSYDUNI is our on-campus FREE 4km fun run held in semester 1 on Wednesday 10 May and includes FREE training sessions in the lead up commencing week 2. It is put on by our coaches and club athletes for the benefity of the University of Sydney community. For more details check out RUNSYDUNI

Sadly no despite the University being around since 1850 however we organise the on-campus fun run event RUNSYDUNI, a 4km fun run and pre-event training sessions around campus. The closest public track is ES Marks Athletics Track (Anzac Parade, Moore Park) operated by Centennial Parklands Trust. All SUAC athletes have exclusive access of this track between 6:30pm – 7:30pm on Monday’s with our coaches.
SUAC was founded in 1878, that’s over 140 years of club uniform which has featured proudly around the world including Diamond League meets by Nick Hough, James Nipperess, Jenny Blundell & Nicola McDermott and made a memorable appearance at the World Beer Mile Championships by World Championships representative Jack Colreavy.
Singlets, training tops, crop tops, shorts and briefs can be purchased through the Registrar from the University of Sydney (by appointment only), at training or at some meets.
Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness administers all aspects of the scholarship program (Elite Athlete Program) including candidate acceptance, see susf.com.au/scholarships and carefully read all information especially closing dates for application. If you have specific questions in relation to the Athletics component of the EAP, feel free to message us.
Sydney University Athletics Club has a proud history of student athletes being awarded University of Sydney Blues and Golds and proudly wearing the award jackets. There are a number of award criteria so it is best discussing these directly with our Director of Athletics prior to summer and/or winter season commencement to ensure these requirements are met.
Junior (U18-20) Athletes must 19 years of age or younger as at 31 December of the registration season, similarly for Junior (U14-17), Youth (U8-13). Open athletes are 20 or above as at 31 December of the registration season.
Please read the FAQs above as several are also relevant to Youth or Kids age groups. Being a university-based club founded in 1878 means we do not have a current affiliation with Little Athletics clubs, nor do we have a junior program like we do UniSport Nationals or our scholarship programs or our Target Paris program. Overwhelmingly our athletes are of high school senior and university age and beyond. There is no track on campus at the University for athletes to train or compete on and strength & conditioning sessions are available to athletes of university age and above only. SUAC currently does not run its own meets but junior athletes have in the past competed at NSW Relay Championships in events where relay teams can be filled in the event and age group where numbers allow.
2023-24 Athlete fees for NSW Athlete Membership are Open $240, Junior (U18-20) $190, Junior (U14-17) $110, Youth (U8-13) & Kids (3-7) $110. Community membership is $50 but only provides access to non-championship, community-oriented (Bronze tier) races put on by ANSW (and it includes insurance). Winter series/RunNSW for roads and cross country season for 2024 are TBC. A Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness annual membership is required as well. As a not for profit club, fees go to the cost of running the club and supporting our athletes. Please select carefully and read Athletics NSW terms when registering carefully as no refunds are available from Atheltics NSW or SUAC.
At this stage no unfortunately for Concession members or Dual Athletes.
See below! Please note current 2022/23 members cannot renew until 1 October 2023. Non-current members can register NOW!
