There are 2 registrations options depending on whether you are a track & field/winter athlete OR whether you only compete off the track in winter road & cross country races:

  • 2017 RunNSW/Waratah Run Series Membership for the period 1 April 2017 to 30 September 2017 for the 2017 winter season ONLY (registration now open for 2017 cross country, road & recreational run athletes only, excludes all Summer Athletics NSW Track & Field events)
  • 2017/18 Athletics NSW (Open or Junior) Athlete Membership for the period 1 October 2017 to
30 September 2018 for both the ANSW Summer Track & Field AND 2018 Winter seasons (registration to open in August 2017)

We recommend almost every athlete select the Athletics NSW Athlete Membership except distance athletes who have missed the Summer Track & Field season. Junior Athletes must be under 20 years of age as at 30 September 2018 (no Junior option for Winter Series Membership). We can also offer Youth & Community registration as well as Club Official registration

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a University of Sydney Student to join SUAC? Absolutely not, we’re open to all! If you’re already registered with another athletics club, you can transfer within season to SUAC, just contact the Registrar.

Is there an age limit? We can register athletes from U14 and upwards. For Little Athletics NSW Dual Registration, read also the specific section at the bottom of this page.

What does registration mean? You must be registered to compete in Athletics NSW & Athletics Australia sanctioned events. Season competition can be found on the Athletics NSW website (there are also reciprocal arrangements with other States). Some events are free to enter, others are pay entry per event. SUAC covers race entry for Club Championships as well as all summer & winter relay races and enters as many teams as there are athletes willing to compete! You also get to be part of Australia’s first & finest athletics club and have a great time with a great bunch of people. And we organise lots of trips and run a heap of fantastic social events!

Does registration include training & coaching? No, this is entirely separate to registration but the Head Coach can offer sprints, middle distance & distance coaching for runners aged 14 and older committed to 3 or more training sessions per week. For details see Training.

Does Sydney University have its own track? Sadly no despite the University being around since 1850 and as such we do not run our own races or events. The closest public track is ES Marks Track (Anzac Parade, Moore Park) operated by Centennial Parklands.

I only do fun runs – should I register? Yes you absolutely should! If you’re not keen on running on the track at all, the 2017 RunNSW/Waratah Run series registration provides free entry to any RunNSW event and enables you to earn points for SUAC in the Winter Premiership as well as testing yourself against the rest of the State across all age groups!

Should I register for the RunNSW/Waratah Run Series if I am a sprinter or compete in field events? No! You should register as a 2016/17 Athletics NSW Open or Junior Athlete. If it is Winter and you’ve missed the current Track & Field season, you should be winter training however and if you’re a Sydney Uni student, Australian University Games are in September so you will be on the track or field in no time!

Can I register for Summer Track & Field season only? No, the two options are 2016/17 Athletics NSW Athlete Membership (includes Summer & Winter seasons) OR 2017 RunNSW/Waratah Run Series season only.

How can I be part of the Australian University Games team & do I need to be registered with SUAC? Keep an eye on the Contactsection around June for the team managers who organise the team. No you don’t need to be registered but registered athletes receive benefits over those who aren’t. And you will be friends with your fellow athletes for life!

Why do the men wear all white & what’s with the tie? SUAC was founded in 1878 – that’s over 137 years of wearing the club uniform which has featured proudly around the world including IAAF Diamond League meets by Nick Hough & Jenny Blundell and has even made an appearance at the World Beer Mile Championships!

How do I get my hands on a nifty club uniform? Singlets, crop tops, shorts and briefs can be purchased through the Registrar from the University of Sydney (by appointment only), at training or at some meets.

How do I apply for an Elite Athlete Program scholarship? Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness administers all aspects of the scholarship program, see or our Contacts section.

I’ve got it, now how do I register? We’re not on the ANSW membership registration portal so it’s a good question, see below.

2 Easy Ways To Register

1. Pay registration fees online (fees will display depending on Open or Junior or Waratah Run Series membership) via the Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) website here. Once you’ve completed your purchase, forward the confirmation email to the Registrar to arrange collection of numbers and organise a uniform.

2. Email the Registrar the following:

  • Genderbig_tie_flat
  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Full address & postcode
  • Mobile
  • Email
  • Emergency contact name
  • Emergency contact number

The Registrar will then contact you with the cost of registration, payment instructions and where uniforms & numbers are available for collection.

We do hold a Registration night in the week before round 1 of club competition each October at Sydney Uni as part of our social activities which we advertise on our facebook page.

As a member of SUAC and/or to compete at Australian University Games you also need to be an annual member of Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness, our parent organisation, which is available online at or via the Registrar (will be automatically included as part of the online registration option). 2017 rates are $60 Sydney Uni Students, $65 non-students, $20 U18. You also get access to Member rates to use any of SUSF’s health & fitness facilities.

Little Athletics NSW Dual Registration

In 2016 Little Athletics NSW are offering automatic Dual Registration with senior Athletics NSW clubs at time of LANSW registration. This is a new initiative and is designed to make younger athletes more aware of senior athletics and provide a more visible pathway.

What do I need to know about selecting Sydney University Athletics Club? Please read the FAQs above as several are also relevant to Dual Registered athletes. Being a University club means we do not have any affiliation with Little Athletics clubs and nor do we have a  junior program like we do University Games or scholarship programs.

Do Dual Athletes have to compete or when can they?  They absolutely do not have to compete. It is entirely up to you as all Athletics NSW events are open to enter online (also on the day in non-Championships events). Some competitions will be age graded, others such as Allcomers meets are Open age so it is best to check the ANSW website. SUAC does not run its own meets but Dual Registered athletes have in the past competed at NSW Relay Championships in events where relay teams can be filled and is probably the most fun meet on the calendar.  Keep an eye on this section in early November each year to see details regarding Relay Championships.

I didn’t select a senior club at the time of LANSW registration for my child, what next? Please email the Registrar with the above athlete details as well as Little Athletics Club and number.

We would love you to like our facebook page and instagram feed which provides regular updates on what the club and our athletes are up to here and around the world plus a bunch of great photos.
